Globe x G-Shock Limited Edition Pack

A few months ago pix of the Globe x Casio collab surfaced on the internet.  Yesterday,  Casio released the official press release.

Stay tuned as more details of the 'triple threat' pack will be announced in the coming weeks.

CASIO G-SHOCK ANNOUNCES GLOBE COLLABORATION

DOVER, NJ, December 18, 2009 —  Casio America Inc., proudly solidifies its strong commitment to the skate and surf community by collaborating with Globe, the progressive Australian based boardsports footwear and apparel brand. Combining the G-Shock heritage of toughness and technology with Globe’s unrelenting history of innovative products that enhance the lifestyles of avid skateboarders and surfers with quality, fresh designs creates a head-to-toe Globe X G-Shock collaboration.

Authentic in its approach, the Globe X G-Shock Ltd Edition package breaks boundaries by incorporating a fitted cap with black on black embroidery, sleek leather mesh bill and custom lining as well as the Destroyer, an 80s retro high-top white sneaker with black and gold detailing to perfectly coordinate with the DW5600GLB-7 watch.
“G-Shock has actively supported the action sports culture across the world, and is known for its products’superior quality, so we are very proud to partner with them”, said Matt Wong, President of Globe’s product Division.  “Creating unique, yet classic products are a priority for Globe”.
Inventively designed, the G-Shock X Globe collaboration watch pays homage to the very first G-Shock (DW5000C) with its classic square shaped bezel. Destined to be a collector’s item, the DW5600GLB-7 has its own black on black metal road case.

Pacquiao V Cotto

Pacquiao is the man with momentum and he could rewrite the history books by becoming the only prize fighter in history to claim seven world titles in seven weight divisions if he defeats Cotto.

Cotto, who has 34 wins (27 KOs) and just one defeat to his name, is beloved by the Puerto Rican nation and as much a symbol of machismo and humility as Pacquiao is in the Philippines.

He faces the man who is regarded as the best pound-for-pound boxer on the planet in the wake of the Filipino's eight-round demolition of Oscar de la Hoya 11 months ago and the second-round flattening of Britain's Ricky Hatton in May.

Pacquiao, who has won 49 fights (37 KOs) and lost three, appears unstoppable. What has been startling is Pacquiao's ability to carry his power up the divisions. Both De La Hoya and Hatton were bigger men, yet De La Hoya at welterweight and Hatton at light-welterweight were dismantled by the speed of the tenacious southpaw.

Cotto is a slow starter, and if he cannot find a way to be the aggressor in a fight, he sits back and counter-punches. He also sets clever traps for opponents and although his handspeed and movement are slower than Pacquiao's, he will be dangerous in later rounds.

Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach said: "Manny is moving up a weight class but I am very confident in my guy and we are 100 per cent ready for this fight. I feel that he is going to knock Cotto out."

Cotto is unperturbed. "What they say and what they do does not concern me," he said. "I'm going home with the belt."

Pacquiao said: "This is the most important fight of my career. If I win, it will be history for boxing and for the Philippines."

Bio Mituri

Got an email from my boy HD last night informing me that he had won the Silver Medal Award at the Seoul Design Olympiad 2009 for his eco friendly footwear design called 'BioMituri 2009'.  His concept is " a modern interpretation of the Mituri with an environmental friendly solution".

Well done Bro!!!

A little info from Yanko Design.

In this project, designer HoDong Sung took on the task of redesigning a two thousand year old shoe. A shoe design, I should say, not a old rotten shoe. The Bio Mituri is the 2009 re-design of the traditional Mituri straw shoe from Korea. Reducing pollution and increasing style points at the same time! Enjoy this and Sung’s fantastic industrial design travels and shoe-history in real sneaker comfort!
First let me tell you a tiny bit about HoDong Sung. Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea where vivid memories spring forth of low eco standards in high-quality athletic footwear factories (this was in the 1980s.) From there, Sung spent time developing industrial design skills in super-eco-clean Australia. Then Sung was a footwear designer for Nike in Oregon, USA. Then on to Adidas in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

This path, along with the changing and ever-greening times, Sung began designing an eco-friendly no-performance-sacrificed set of shoes. For the Bio Mituri the “main idea is combining Korean traditional Mituri upper design with western developed sole structure, which is the perfect marriage of natural material with ergonomics.”

A. Mituri twisted straw replaced with bamboo yarn for durability, eco-friendliness. (Anti-bacterial, non-allergenic)
B. Mituri adjustability improved upon with new upper structure with a string system that wraps top, bottom, heel together all at once.
C. Mituri weak points done away with using biodegradable foam midsole. This sole biodegrades 50 times faster than the average shoe.
D. Production reduction (combining toe cap, heel counter, insole, and midsole in to one injection-molded midsole) minimizes CO2 emissions. Also has recycled tire outsole.
E. Glue used to connect outsole and midsole is water-based cement, avoiding chemical bonds that pollute.

27 Oct

Today marks the 6th year of my dad's passing.

He was an avid marathoner. His love and appreciation of good running shoes introduced me to the world of footwear. He was always a will be an NB head although he rocked the original red/white am87's when they first came out.

This was his final international run at the 2002 Athens Marathon.

We miss you Big Poppa!
